Product design and operation overview

| |
The Cess post signal head equipment, mounted on a signal head platform (moveable carriage) is connected, via a cable and pulley mechanism, to a moveable counter-balance weight carriage. |
| |
The signal head carriage is fitted with wheel-block (roller) assemblies running in guide rail channels formed by the post structure. |
| |
Accurate location of the signal head carriage, when in the Operating Position is achieved by a signal head raise and lower arm (?T? handle) engaging in the hook of a locking handle to force the carriage onto four locating cones, one on each corner of the signal head carriage. |
| |
The raise and lower arm, is used to pull (lower) the signal head into a position that provides safe access to carry out the required inspection/maintenance activity, or push(raise) the signal head to return the signal to its operating position. |
| |
The pulley system and counter-balance weights ensure that minimum effort is required to pull or push the signal head into position. |
| |
The cables and pulleys mechanism and counter-balance weight carriage is located inside the post which has a lockable door. The door always allows access to the counter-balance mechanism and, when fully closed and locked, ensures the signal head remains in its Operating Position. |
| |
Spring dampers, mounted on the signal head carriage, cushion the signal head from a hard impact when it is raised or lowered to the full extent of its travel. |
| |
At the foot of the post a foot operated lever arm and latch assembly is used to lock the signal head in its fully lowered potion for maintenance access. |
