Product design and operation overview
The Cess post signal head equipment, mounted on a signal head platform (moveable carriage) is connected, via a cable and pulley mechanism, to a moveable counter-balance weight carriage.
The signal head carriage is fitted with wheel-block (roller) assemblies running in guide rail channels formed by the post structure.
Accurate location of the signal head carriage, when in the Operating Position is achieved by a signal head raise and lower arm (?T? handle) engaging in the hook of a locking handle to force the carriage onto four locating cones, one on each corner of the signal head carriage.
The raise and lower arm, is used to pull (lower) the signal head into a position that provides safe access to carry out the required inspection/maintenance activity, or push(raise) the signal head to return the signal to its operating position.
The pulley system and counter-balance weights ensure that minimum effort is required to pull or push the signal head into position.
The cables and pulleys mechanism and counter-balance weight carriage is located inside the post which has a lockable door. The door always allows access to the counter-balance mechanism and, when fully closed and locked, ensures the signal head remains in its Operating Position.
Spring dampers, mounted on the signal head carriage, cushion the signal head from a hard impact when it is raised or lowered to the full extent of its travel.
At the foot of the post a foot operated lever arm and latch assembly is used to lock the signal head in its fully lowered potion for maintenance access.
